    SIGNAL LINE PROTECTION

Protect outdoor audio equipment from lightning-induced surges.

Equipment installed outdoors, like speakers in stadiums or on light poles, provides an attractive path for lightning. A nearby strike can induce high current and cause catastrophic damage to connected audio equipment. The LA Series provides simple and inexpensive protection, diverting surges up to 5,000 amps in under a nanosecond.

Its hybrid, three-stage design combines fast-acting MOVs, inductors, and silicon avalanche diodes for robust protection. The modular design, which mates with a required PCB-1B base, allows for easy replacement of the protection module after a significant lightning event, simplifying long-term maintenance.

    REQUIRED COMPONENTS

    Complete your LA Series installation.

The LA Series module requires a mounting base and is designed for specific audio systems.

    PCB-1B Mounting Base

This base is required for installation and allows the LA module to be easily replaced.

    Outdoor Speaker Systems

Specifically designed to protect speakers installed in stadiums, on light poles, or in other exposed locations.

    70-Volt Audio Systems

The LA 100 model is specified for use with 70-volt distributed audio systems.
    CONFIGURATION OPTIONS

    Spec your protection.

Configure the LA Series for your specific audio installation.
    Model Selection

Choosing the correct LA model is critical for effective protection without impacting audio performance.

    • Clamping Voltage: Models are available with clamping levels from 15V to 150V.
    • Application Matching: The appropriate model is a function of the speaker’s impedance and wattage. For example, the LA 100 is designed for 70-volt speaker systems.
    • Guidance: Contact a LynTec engineer with your speaker specifications to determine the correct model for your project.
    Installation and Mounting

The LA Series uses a two-part system for easy installation and serviceability.

    • PCB-1B Base (Required): The protection module is not a standalone unit. It must be installed onto the PCB-1B mounting base, which is priced and sold separately.
    • Modular Connection: The LA module’s gold-plated circuit card securely mates with the base, allowing for quick and easy replacement when needed.
    Current Load Configuration

The module can be configured for standard or higher-current speaker lines.

    • Standard (5A): By default, the LA module protects two separate pairs of audio lines, each up to 5 amps.
    • High-Current (10A): For loads up to 10 amps, the terminals can be bridged, restricting the module to protecting a single pair of leads.

    FAQ

    FAQs about the LA Series

Can this handle high-power speaker lines?

Yes. Each module can protect two pairs of lines up to 5 amps each. For higher current loads up to 10 amps, the terminals can be bridged to protect a single pair of lines.

How do I choose the right LA model for my speakers?

The correct model depends on your speaker’s wattage and impedance, which determines the required clamping voltage. For example, the LA 100 model is for 70-volt systems. Contact a LynTec engineer with your speaker specs for a precise recommendation.

How often should the protection module be replaced?

The module is designed to be easily replaceable. We recommend periodic inspection and replacement as part of a regular maintenance schedule, or immediate replacement following a known significant lightning event in the vicinity of the installation.

Is the mounting base included with the LA module?

No. The LA module requires the PCB-1B mounting base for installation. The base is priced and sold separately.

    What is three-stage hybrid protection?

It’s a robust circuit design that uses three types of components in sequence: Metal Oxide Varistors (MOVs), inductors, and Silicon Avalanche Diodes (SADs). This provides more comprehensive protection against a wider range of electrical surges than a single-stage design.
